Help with X for iPhone or iPad

For the best experience using the X for iOS app, consider upgrading your iOS device to the latest operating system (OS). If your device is still using iOS 13.7 or lower, your X app may not update to more recent versions. 

If you’re having issues with the X app on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch device, these troubleshooting tips should help.

Check your device’s available space

If you’re having trouble installing the latest X for iOS app, check to see how much space is available on your phone.

  1. Go to your device's Settings.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Under Usage, you can see how much memory is available on your device.
  4. If your device has less than 130 MB available, you may need to uninstall other apps to clear space.
  5. Once you have more space available, try downloading the app again.

What to do if device space isn’t an issue

If you have enough space available and you’re still having trouble installing the app:

  1. Cancel the download in the iTunes App Store, then restart the download.
  2. If restarting the download doesn’t work, try powering off your device and then restarting it.
  3. If restarting your device doesn’t work, try uninstalling the X app from your device. After it’s uninstalled, restart your device and then re-install the X app from the App Store.
  4. If you’re still having trouble, check iTunes Support for tips to troubleshoot download issues.

If you’re having trouble with the X for iOS app, first restart your device

Sometimes turning your device off and then on again can clear up any issues. If you’ve tried that and it didn’t work, below is a list of other troubleshooting techniques. 

Check your network connections

If your device seems to be connected to the internet, but your app isn’t working, check your network connections. 

If you’re connected to a VPN, try turning it off. If turning off the VPN fixes your connectivity issue, you’ll need to contact your VPN provider for help.

Remove your account from the app and log back in:

Try removing and then re-adding your account to the app. If you’ve enabled login verification on your account, be sure to store a backup code before removing your account from the app. 

Removing your account will clear any Post drafts you haven’t sent, so we suggest saving your Post as a draft. 

Remove and re-add your account from settings:

Logging out of your account will clear your drafts. Before completing the steps below, save any Post drafts you’d like to keep.

To remove:

  1. Make sure you are logged in to the correct profile.

  2. From the profile menu tap Settings and privacy.

  3. Tap on Your account.

  4. Tap on Account information

  5. Tap Log out.

Note: this will not deactivate your account, rather this will only remove the account from the app, effectively signing it out of the app.

To re-add your account to the app: 

  1. Open the X app.

  2. Select Sign in.

  3. Enter your username, phone or email and password.

  4. Select Done.

If you've forgotten your account's password or are having trouble logging back in, reset your password from your device.

Uninstall and reinstall the app:

If the above troubleshooting steps didn't resolve your issue, you can try deleting and reinstalling the app on your device. If you’ve enabled login verification on your account, be sure to store a backup code before uninstalling the app.

Logging out of your account will clear your drafts.

 

To uninstall the app:

  1. From your home screen, press and hold your finger on the X app icon.
  2. The icon will begin to wobble and an x will appear in the top left corner of the icon. Tap the X.
  3. You will be asked to confirm your decision to delete the app. Tap Delete.
  4. The app will disappear from the screen and has been deleted from your device.

 

To reinstall the app:

  1. Go to https://x.com/download.
  2. Enter your phone number (the number associated with your account).
  3. You will receive a text message with a link to the App store.
  4. Tap the link and download the X app.

 

 

Messages and other issues

Unauthorized or Invalid username and password

When signing in, some people may see messages like Unauthorized or Invalid username and password. Sometimes this happens because of incorrect time zone settings. Setting your time zone to update automatically can guard against messages like this. How to check that your time zone settings are set to update automatically:

  1. Tap the Settings icon on your device.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Select Date & Time.
  4. Make sure the option to Set Automatically is enabled. Some people see these messages due to having outdated versions of the X app. Double check the App store on your device to make sure you have updated the app recently.

Third-party keyboards

Some people experience issues with third party keyboards on iOS devices. For the best X experience, make sure you’re using the keyboard that came with your iPhone or iPad.
