About profile labels and checkmarks on X
X applies visual identity signals like labels and checkmarks on account profiles to provide more context about — and help distinguish — different types of accounts. Some of these indicators are applied by X, while others are triggered by user action.
X-applied
Blue checkmark
The blue checkmark means that an account has an active subscription to X Premium and meets our eligibility requirements. These accounts may represent an individual or an organization. Accounts that receive the blue checkmark as part of a Premium subscription will not undergo review to confirm that they meet the active, notable and authentic criteria that was used in the previous process. Learn more about the blue checkmark here.
Gold checkmark and square profile picture
The gold checkmark indicates that the account is an official organization account through Verified Organizations.
Grey checkmark
The grey checkmark indicates that an account represents a government/multilateral organization or official.

Affiliation badges
Affiliation badges indicates that an account is connected to an organization on X. The affiliation badge contains the profile photo of a Verified Organization and is applied to all the affiliates of that organization. Affiliated accounts can have gold, grey, or blue checkmarks depending on the type of account. Affiliation badges are displayed on profiles, posts, timelines, notifications, DMs, search results and elsewhere.
Automated account labels
Automated labels provide transparency by helping you identify if an account is a bot or not. When an account displays the "automated" account label you know the account is generating automated content not produced by a human. Automated account labels — currently in testing — appear on account profiles under profile names and handles. Learn more about automated account labels here.
Self-selected
Professional category labels
Professional category labels are selected by people on X when they convert to a Professional Account. X does not control the selection of these labels, and users may change their professional category at any time.
