Indonesia Online Safety Information

X's purpose is to serve the public conversation. Violence, harassment and other similar types of behaviour discourage people from expressing themselves, and ultimately diminish the value of global public conversation.

Our Rules are to ensure all people can participate in the public conversation freely and safely. We encourage you to review our Rules and policies. We have a range of enforcement options, which we take to reduce the risk of harm to our users, in a proportionate manner. Users can also appeal account suspensions if they believe we made an error. They can do this through the platform interface or by filing a report.

X is a place to share ideas and information, connect with your communities, and see the world around you. In order to protect the very best parts of that experience, we provide tools designed to help you control what you see and what others can see about you, so that you can express yourself on X with confidence and to make sure your experience using the X platform is safe and secure. Please refer here for further information.

We suggest staying informed about account safety and security, safeguarding your privacy, avoiding spam and scams, and consider controlling what you see. Our Help Center provides answers to the most common questions; but if you need account support, submitting a support form ensures your request is routed to the appropriate team.

Requirements of Indonesian law

In Indonesia, online safety and the protection of children in digital environments are regulated under national laws and regulations, including the Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on Governance of The Organization of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (“PP Tunas”) and its implementing regulation, Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs Regulation No. 9 of 2026 on Implementing Regulation of Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on Governance of The Organization of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (“MCDA 9/2026”).

Minimum age to use an X account in Indonesia

Starting 28 March 2026, you must be at least 16 years old to use an X account in Indonesia. This change is required by Indonesian law (namely PP Tunas and MCDA 9/2026) to introduce a social media minimum age (“SMMA”). The SMMA prevents age-restricted social media platforms, including X, from letting people under 16 create or keep an account. It’s not our choice - it’s what Indonesian law requires.

Important Note: X prioritizes your privacy. Your information is stored securely with strong protections in place. For further details on our data retention practices and privacy policies, please refer to our privacy center here

What happens if we determine you are under 16

If signals indicate that a user is under 16, the user won't be able to use an X account until they are 16 or over and receive a notice to verify their age.

Affected accounts can submit a request to access their account data here.

Requests can also be addressed to the contacts listed under the “How To Contact Us” section of our Privacy Policy.

How can you appeal against our decision

If you believe your account was incorrectly locked out, or if you wish to reinstate your account once you are 16 or over, you can follow the instructions to verify your age within the account lockout notice.
